ELIGIBILITY: All grades as of Fall 2010 school year.  Field hockey players must be female and only compete in one division in one event. 

 

TRYOUTS: Individual tryouts will be held mid-April through early July to

select 16 players in each division to fill 10 teams which represent each of the 8 designated regions and two at-large teams per division at the Summer Games.  If a tryout is cancelled due to severe weather players should attend the next scheduled tryout and/or contact the Regional Sport Coordinator or team coach for information as the KSG office may not be notified of last minute revisions.  In order to be considered for the region team an athlete must attend at least one tryout/trial.

DESCRIPTION: At the Summer Games the ten teams in each division will compete round robin pool play to qualify teams for medal/position play.  National Federation rules (PIAA) will govern all youth, junior and scholastic games; with timing modifications for pool play.  Competition will be held Thursday through Sunday, July 22 - 25; with youth Friday - Sunday on a grass field at West York HS, junior Friday – Sunday and scholastic Thursday – Saturday, both on the artificial turfs at York Suburban High School.  Please review the 2009 Field Hockey Handbook Attachment. 

There will be a modification of regional boundaries for field hockey.  Players in Bucks and Montgomery Counties will tryout for the Delaware Valley teams; and players in Chester, Delaware and Philadelphia Counties will try out for the Metro teams. 

A Cup Award was implemented in 2005 and will be continued.  The results of all three teams in the region will be scored, and the region totaling the highest earns the third annual Klassner Cup. To make lodging reservations visit http://housing.yorkpa.org or call 1-888-858-YORK. 

 

ENTRY PROCEDURE: Pre-registration is STRONGLY encouraged.  Players must enter in the division for which they qualify.  Send the entry form and $10 entry fee to the Keystone State Games office at least 2 weeks before attending a tryout.  If attending a tryout in less than 14 days DO NOT mail the entry form, but hand carry it to the tryout.  Players must complete an entry form and submit the proper entry fee BEFORE they are allowed to participate.  Entry forms will be available at all tryouts.  An additional $50 finalist fee will be assessed all field hockey players competing in the Summer Games Finals competition.
