General Information

ATHLETE ELIGIBILITY

ALL ATHLETES must be Pennsylvania residents (see exceptions in specific sports text) of amateur status as defined by each sport’s national governing body. Residency is defined as having established a Pennsylvania residence at least 30 days prior to participating in any tryout, qualifier, or competition conducted by Keystone State Games, Inc.

  • PRIOR TO PARTICIPATION a non-refundable entry fee and correctly completed entry form are required of all athletes for each sport entered. Refer to each sport for specific entry guidelines, fees, and deadlines.
  • For sports with tryouts/trials/qualifiers, athletes may only compete for one region - their region of permanent residence. Athletes temporarily residing in another region at the time of tryouts/trials/qualifiers due to school or employment may compete for their region of temporary residence instead of their region of permanent residence, but not both.  Athletes must obtain prior permission from the Competition Committee.
  • Team sports may use more than one tryout in a region to provide the opportunity for more athletes to compete. Athletes may compete in more than one sport at the finals, with the following exceptions:
    • A person may not compete in two team sports that have players selected to rosters based on tryout performance, regardless if the competition overlaps or not. The intent is to give more people the opportunity to be part of the finals.  Team sports are baseball, field hockey, ice hockey, soccer, and volleyball.
    • A person may not compete in two sports that are scheduled for competition on the same day.
    • A person may compete in two sports as long as neither or only one of the sports is a team sport, and the competitions are not scheduled to be held on the same day.

ENTRY INFORMATION

  • Early entry is strongly encouraged to avoid delays, double registration and duplicate payment of fees at tryouts/qualifiers.
  • For sports with specific entry deadlines all entry forms and fees must be received in the Keystone State Games office no later than the date listed. Mailed entries must be postmarked at least one (1) day prior to the listed deadline, or as specified by the sport.
  • For sports accepting walk-on entry registration at tryouts/qualifiers all mailed entry forms and fees must be postmarked at least fourteen (14) days prior to the tryout/qualifier. If the tryout/qualifier is less than fourteen (14) days DO NOT mail the entry form and fee, but bring both to the tryout/qualifier and submit it to the onsite coordinator.

MEDICAL SERVICES

Keystone State Games Medical Services will be headquartered at the York Expo Center, Toyota Arena, 334 Carlisle Ave., York.  There will be volunteer physicians, trainers, therapists and other medical personnel on duty during all times of competition. These people may be identified by their KSG Medical Staff shirts. All injuries or illnesses must be reported to the trainer or physician on site. First Aid will be administered on site. If an athlete requires further review or treatment, the athlete will be transported to a local flagship hospital. Final disposition of an athlete’s continued participation remains with the KSG Medical Staff. In the event of injury or illness requiring hospital treatment, expenses must be paid by the participant. The agreement and consent form previously signed by the participant and/or parent contains a medical treatment clause, which is important in case treatment is necessary.
